Buddy Walk Australia 2010

Buddy Walk is an international walk-a-thon style event aimed at raising funds for and awareness of Down syndrome. There are more than 260 Buddy Walks all around the world. In Australia, most walks coincide with Down Syndrome Awareness Week and are held in Adelaide, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Newcastle, Wollongong, Wagga Wagga, Canberra, Horsham, Bendigo and Melbourne!

Buddy Walk brings together people with Down syndrome and their ‘buddies’ – everyone from friends and family to teachers, politicians and co-workers – to raise funds for education, support and advocacy programs for your state Down Syndrome Association.

Volunteers are needed on the day, and donations are appreciated either in person on the day or via our website.

Buddy Walk will be held on Sunday 10th October 2010, in Melbourne and Bendigo and on Sunday 24th October in Horsham.

Weather permitting, groups should bring picnic provisions for lunch after the walk. A sausage sizzle and entertainment will be provided. The Buddy Walk will go ahead regardless of weather.

Registration is free and forms will be available soon!

Fundraising:

Each Team Captain or 'Hero' (this does not have to be a person with Down syndrome) is sponsored by as many supporters as possible, which raises money for Down Syndrome Victoria. In order to raise funds, the Team Captain can create a Hero Page. A Hero Page is a personal fundraising website that's accessible to your family, friends and colleagues. You can share a special message of inspiration, start a blog, share an image or video and raise funds for Down Syndrome Victoria.

More information on how to get involved will be posted on the website and in DNews over the coming weeks.
