An Individual Support Package is funding supplied to people with an intellectual disability such as Down syndrome, in order for them to purchase supports that will best suit their ongoing disability support needs or achieve any goals they may have.
The supports that are purchased with the Individual Support Package are selected by the person seeking the package and are intended to be things that are not readily available for to them, but are available for others.
In order to receive an Individual Support Package, an individual would need to apply for this package through their DHS regional intake or response service. Once funding has been allocated to them, an individual would then need to work alongside a facilitator to develop a detailed plan as well as a funding proposal to determine how much funding is needed to meet their needs or goals. A facilitator can assist in determining which services suit an individual’s situation best, and can provide information, support and guidance in selecting which services the Individual Support Package will be used for.
