Rights and Responsibilities

As an adult with Down syndrome it is important to be familiar with your rights and responsibilities as a member of your community.

 

Disability Services Standard

The Disability Services Standards are rules that tell Disability Employment Services how to make sure they give people with disabilities a good quality service.

VALID

VALID provides individual advocacy support to adults with an intellectual disability and their families. Individual advocacy supports people to exercise their rights and to be included within their local communities.

 

Reinforce Self-Advocacy

Reinforce is a self-advocacy organisation run by and for people with an intellectual disability. Reinforce is here to assist, support and encourage independence for people with an intellectual disability.

Reinforce promotes the rights of people with an intellectual disability to be upheld in the same way as everyone else in the community.

AMIDA

AMIDA is a disability advocacy group. They speak up for people with a disability or help them to speak up for themselves about problems they are having with their housing.

 

Voting and Enrolment

If you are 18 years or older and an Australian citizen then it is your right and your responsibility to be enrolled to vote. If you need assistance a family member, carer or staff member can help you when you go to vote.
